Gap Year Learnership

Gap Year Learnership

We welcome gap students of any age. Most applicants are about 18-25years old. All that we require is a good attitude and a willingness to do any task asked of you.  We require a minimum commitment of 3 months from our gap students. This gives you enough time to get to know the way the Retreat and Guest House are run and get stuck in, and hopefully have some fun.

The Gap Year programme provides a meaningful and exciting experience in outdoor and environmental education in South Africa.

Applicants should:

  • have an interest in environmental and outdoor education;
  • Be interested in working with children;
  • Be willing to work with underprivileged communities;
  • enjoy adventure and an active, healthy lifestyle;
  • have above average communication and interpersonal skills;
  • be available for 3 – 18 months of rewarding but hard work;
  • interested in learning about conservation and Game management

It is also possible to work toward a South African National Certificate in Environmental Management Level 5, Nature Conservation & Gaurdianship Level 2 or a National Certificate in Management Level 3 as part of the process, all of which can be comparable to equivalent courses in Countries abroad. Short courses in Anti-Poaching are also available on request.

These Gap year programmes/ Internships are negotiated individually with each applicant and are tailored to meet the skills and needs of each Gap-year student.

All attendees staying will receive training in Practical Facilitation, Basic Cooking skills & Basic Maintenance. All attendees staying for 6 months or longer will receive training in First Aid level 1.

There is a lot on offer here which is not available to most. Should your application be successful, we hope your time at Elandsheim Retreat will prove to be a most worthwhile experience for you and we look forward to welcoming you as part of our team.
